RISK ASSESSMENT STATEMENT
Adult and Youth Rugby Football Union Club
The following questions have been based on the perceived risks associated with your club. If you are able to answer yes to all the questions or provide a suitable alternative, it is felt that you will have done all that is practical in creating a risk free environment for your members.
All RFU affiliated clubs are expected to operate within the guidelines of their NGB (RFU) and CB (NLD) and the fact that you answer yes to all these questions will in no way preclude you from doing so.
If you feel that there are any outstanding risks associated with the operation of you club, then you must bring them to the attention of the Ilkeston RUFC President without delay.
N.B. You must answer all questions by either Yes, Not Applicable or give a suitable alternative, if you cannot then you will have identified an unacceptable risk which you must bring to the attention of the Ilkeston RUFC President without delay.
1.0 Supervision etc.
1.1 Are all official matches and formal practice sessions supervised by a qualified coach or responsible club official?...YES
1.2 Are matches controlled by a qualified referee who ensures the suitability of the ground, enforces the rules and ensures discipline?...YES
1.3 If appropriate, is a person present at all official practices who can stop the activity in the case of bad light etc.?...YES
1.4 Are opposing teams of comparable age, physique and skills?...YES
2.0 Emergencies and Health Monitoring
2.1 Are participants advised that a return to sport too early after injury is not appropriate?...YES
2.2 Is there a procedure in place to monitor and review accidents?...YES
2.3 Are all serious accidents reported to: -
a) the institution (or anywhere where facilities are hired)?...YES
b) are procedures in place to report onto the appropriate enforcing bodies such as the RFU?...YES
2.4 Is first Aid equipment available?...YES
2.5 Is there a person qualified in First Aid at sessions or available on the premises?...YES
3.0 The Ground
The Ilkeston RUFC Groundsman maintains the clubs facilities, including playing areas and fixed equipment, however Team Coaches and Captains should bring to the clubs attention anything which they feel could cause harm to players.
3.1 Is somebody from the organization responsible for cancelling games if the weather conditions are adverse and dangerous e.g. frost?...YES
3.2 Before play commences is the pitch inspected by a referee or other qualified person?...YES
3.3 Is the use of corrosive and irritant fertilisers prohibited?...YES
4.0 Goal Posts
All goal posts are checked by the Ilkeston RUFC Groundsman, however Team Coaches and Captains should check them prior to play commencing and report any defects.
5.0 Corner Flag Posts
5.1 Are the flag posts at least 5' high?...YES
5.2 Do all flag posts have a non-pointed top?...YES
5.3 Are the flag posts at the half way line at least one yard outside the touchline?...YES
5.4 Are the posts light enough to give on contact with a player?...YES
6.0 Personal Protective Equipment/Clothing etc.
6.1 Do all players wear the correct footwear with studs free from worn or sharp edges?...YES
6.2 Do rugby players wear correctly fitting mouth guards during both practise sessions and matches?...YES
6.3 If head guards/body pads/shoulder pads are worn are they inspected by the referee prior to the match to ensure no prominent or sharp edges?...YES
6.4 Is the wearing of rings prohibited unless they are taped?...YES
