HEALTH AND SAFETY
The objective of playing rugby is to have fun and that means being warm, safe and properly kitted out. Set below are some guidelines relating to health and safety.
Always warm up.
Wear a mouth guard - preferably one prepared by your dentist.
Wear shin guards (particularly recommended for the front five).
Take off any jewellery (e.g. rings, watches, nose studs, earrings).
Do not chew gum.
Wear kite-marked studs recommended for rugby and check them on a regular basis, replacing any missing or worn studs.
An up to date tetanus injection is recommended (check with you GP).
Remember to take in fluids - isotonic drinks or water during and after training/matches.
We strongly recommend that 'kite marked' aluminium studs are used, please check them on a regular basis and replace any that are missing or worn. The club does not recommend boots with 'blades' due to the number of injuries being reported to the RFU directly related to 'blades'. If there is no option under no circumstances can the blades be plastic.
Protected clothing such as shin guards, shoulder pads, head guards, ankle supports and elasticated bandages may be worn if it conforms to International Rugby Board regulations.
We all hope that no player gets hurt. If, unfortunately they do, basic first aid will be administered at the site and the parent/guardian notified (by signing the registration and club membership form consent is given to basic first aid being administrated). If, in the opinion of the first-aider the child needs hospital treatment, appropriate arrangements will be made. If a parent/guardian is unavailable, the club will ensure the child is accompanied and that the parent/guardian is notified as soon as possible.
A number of our Coaches, Team Managers and Parent Volunteers (as follows) have passed the RFU SPORTS FIRST AID COURSE...
7/8's...Elaine Lebeter/Sheryl Doughty.
U9's...Kit Taylor.
U10's...John Taylor.
U11's...Ken Keetley.
U12's...Neil Clayton/Paul Wilkinson.
U13's...Bebbie Boyer/Caroline Ryder.
U14's...Bob Thompson.
U16's...Tony Farrow/Chris Smith/Rob Jackson.
An up to date list of first aid trained individuals can be found on the notice board within the clubhouse.
Where concussion is sustained the player will be removed from the field and irrespective of age or medical advice will have a mandatory break from rugby for at least 21 days.
Parents/guardians must notify coaches of any conditions, such as asthma or diabetes, which may affect a player during a training session or match.
Under no circumstances can a club officer accept any responsibility for securing or administering a medication.
